The Durham County Poets – hailing from Ormstown, located in the Southwestern region of Quebec – are a five-piece folk-blues band fronted by Kevin Harvey on lead vocals along with David Whyte on electric and acoustic guitars and vocals, Neil Elsmore on acoustic guitar and vocals, Carl Rufh on double bass and vocals and James Preimel on drums and percussion. For the past six years, that they have been performing together, they have thrilled audiences in Quebec, Ontario, and increasingly more across the border in the United States. Check out their bio HERE.

The concert at the intimate Café Résonance on Thursday, May 25 was to celebrate the release of their third CD “Grimshaw Road.”

Katie Rufh sang backup vocals on some songs – adding an extra-special dimension. It was an honor that a series of prior events led me to express my interest in covering this for SMR Culture Plus. Their music is true to the spirit of grassroots Americana with strong influences from a wide range of composers from James Taylor to Mark Knofler with stopovers from The Band, Neil Young, Brian Setzer and anything in between.

Their music combined with a stage presence that included humorous anecdotes expressed such a warm welcome that would make even a complete stranger feel that he/she was now part of a close-knit circle of family and friends. The two hours spent at the Café Résonance felt like a foretaste of Paradise.
