The world is inhabited by demons and Shadowhunters – those who hunt them down. Clary Fray is one such saviour, but it takes the disappearance of her mother to find out just how powerful she is. Like mother- like daughter, for her mother was a leader in the group of Shadowhunters.  The Downworld is filled with vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures, but in this film werewolves are rescuers. They begin to infiltrate the sacred training ground of Shadowhunters, an institute where few now live. Most are dead – hence “the city of bones”. There is so much deception and questing going on in the story, for everyone wants to find this magic cup whose powers are attributed to angels. Carey is the one who finds it but not without the help of Jace, a beautiful Shadowhunter. A highly evil man named Valentine claims both of them of are his children and he desperately wants the cup, and to get it he would kills his supposed children. The move is exciting and full of special effects that work richly into the plot. The book, a best-seller might reveal more than the movie does, but the latter is certainly satisfying to watch.

Gru has gone good. He’s now a foster dad with 3 little girls and he’s making jellies for a living. Gone are the days when in Part 1 he was a villain who stole the moon. Part 2 opens with a lab in the Arctic being sucked up by some strange force. Trouble is, in the lab was a chemical that converts good creatures to ferocious ones, so Gru is kidnapped by Ant-Villain League secret agent, Lucy Wilde, who tasers him with her lipstick to bring  him to the Anti-Villain League. They need his services to track down the culprit. At first Gru refuses, but he has a change of heart. The head of the League has traced it to some place in Paradise Mall.
The Machiavellian mastermind behind stealing the chemical turns out to be Mr Macho who is running a salsa restaurant in the mall. But he secretly is storing the chemical inside his huge place. Gru finds out but it is not without problems that he is able to put a stop to it all.
After 147 dates, Lucy and Gru get married, and all the little helpers he has, called minions attend. They speak in gibberish, and it adds whacky sophistication to the entire film. Dr. Nefario was Gru’s partner until he abandons him to go to the wrong side – Mr. Macho’s side, but he has a change of heart, and because of him and those minions, everyone ends up rather happy as one huge family. You do not need to see Part 1 or be a kid to enjoy this film. The characters’ voices and expressions were so clever, I was laughing out loud. A timeless classic with slick animation that is a refreshing departure from Disney’s saccharine-style rather predictable films.

It’s fun tongue-in-cheek action when two undercover operatives – one who works with the navy, the other  from the FDA try to capture the head honchos who are using a bank to hides all the millions they are getting from the drug cartel. As it turns out everyone good is really bad, save for the two heroes. Law enforcement big cheeses smell rotten in this set-up. It also happens that the two agents have no idea their undercover gig is uncovered. In fact, neither knows that each one is working for the law. Each thinks they are going to trap the other in their dirty dealings, but their dirty dealings are just a front to get the bad guys. It’s a confusing plot, but Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg are so much fun to watch, and the snappy dialogue and banter between the two makes up for the crazy plot.
