“Tevye”, drama, United States 1939, Maurice Schwarz
This enduring adaptation of Sholem Aleichem (1859-1916) classic play is about a pious Jewish Ukrainian milkman dealing with his daughter’s marriage to a Ukrainian peasant.

«Tevye», drame, États-Unis 1939, Maurice Schwarz cette adaptation durable du pièce de  théâtre classique de Sholem Aleichem (1859-1916) centrée sur un laitier pieuse d’origine Juive Ukrainienne portant sur le mariage de sa fille avec un paysan Ukrainien.

I stayed 20m to hear exciting rhythms from Montreal Yiddish / Klezmer band “Magillah” led by accordionist-arranger Henri Oppenheim and features Michelle Heisler as lead singer.

J’ai  est resté 20m pour entendre des rythmes passionnantes Yiddish  / Klezmer du groupe Montréalais «Magillah», dirigée par Henri Oppenheim accordéoniste-arrangeur et met en vedette Michelle Heisler comme chanteuse.

“Lansky the Jewish Mafiosi” presented by Yiddishpiel – The Yiddish Theatre in Israel
Monodrama starring Yaacov Bodo as Jewish Mafia Don, Meyer Lansky (1902-1983) who along with Charles ‘Lucky’ Luciano and Bugsy Siegel ruled the streets of New York City during the prohibition era. Recounting his life the play centers on Lansky’s efforts to attain Israeli citizenship through ‘The Law of Return’ in the early 1970s. Well performed drama with the right balance of humour.

 «Lansky le Mafiosi Juif» présenté par Yiddishpiel – le Théâtre Yiddish en Israël
Monodrame mettant en vedette Yaacov Bodo comme juif Mafia Don, Meyer Lansky (1902-1983) qui, avec Charles «Lucky» Luciano et Bugsy Siegel, a domine les rues de la ville de New York à l'époque de la prohibition. En racontant sa vie, la pièce est centrée sur les efforts de Lansky pour atteindre la citoyenneté Israélienne grâce à 'La loi du retour' dans les années 1970. Drame bien réalisé avec le bon l'équilibre de l'humour.

“Woumble/Farbrengen: Celebration and Survival through Culture” presented by Honey A. Drescher, Canada
Despite some flaws this was a wonderful evening of celebration of the common threads between Jewish and Haitian cultures; a three movement work: Mystery, Memory and Celebration, consisting of music, songs, poetry, dance and theatre.

 «Woumble/Farbrenguen: Célébration et Survie Grâce à Culture» présenté par Honey A. Drescher, Canada
Malgré certains défauts, ce spectacle ce fut d’une merveilleuse soirée de célébration des points communs entre les cultures Juives et Haïtiennes; un œuvre en trois mouvements: Mystère, la Mémoire et Célébration, composé de musique, de chansons, de poèmes, de danse et de théâtre.

“The Megillah of Itzik Manger” presented by Yiddishpiel – The Yiddish Theatre in Israel, directed by Itzhak Shauli.

Radical retelling of the Biblical tale of Queen Esther’s who, along with her Uncle Mordechai, thwarted Haman’s plot to eliminate the Jews based on a book by poet and writer Itzik Manger (1901-1969). Brilliantly blended mix of humour and music.

Récit radical de l'histoire Biblique de la Reine  Esther qui, avec son oncle Mordechai, a contrecarré le complot de Haman d'éliminer les Juifs basé sur un livre par le poète et écrivain Itzik Manger (1901-1969). Mélange avec brio d'humour et de la musique.

“Mending the Torn Curtain”, documentary, Canada 2011, Raphael Levy / Ben Gonshor
A chronicle of a significant historical event in the history of Yiddish Culture and a tribute to Dora Wasserman (1919 – 2003). The creation of the first edition of The Montreal International Yiddish Festival in June of 2009, led by daughter Bryna to honour the 50th anniversary of The Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre.

«Réparait le Rideau Déchiré», documentaire, Canada 2011, Raphael Levy / Ben Gonshor
Une chronique d'un événement historique et significative dans l'histoire de la Culture Yiddish et un hommage à Dora Wasserman (1919-2003). La création de la première édition du Festival Montréal International Yiddish en Juin 2009, dirigé par sa fille Bryna pour honorer le 50e anniversaire du Théâtre Yiddish de Dora Wasserman.
