Location, location location! Let’s start with this unbeatable feature of Plaka Hotel (AKA Hotel Plaka). Rated as a 3-star hotel (deserves a star higher rating, as far as I’m concerned), it’s in a perfect spot that puts you in the heart of the city - a stone’s throw away from gleaming Syntagma square whose main advantage is its airport bus that conveniently runs non-stop. The hotel is a hop away from the luxury shopping on Ermou Street; there are no cars here but there is the fabulous flea market of Monastiraki
Plaka
Hotel’s appealing accommodation comes by its name honestly because a jolly
jaunt away are all the those yummy restaurants that saddle the stairs of Athens
renown Plaka district. I have been to Athens
countless times, so I know that visiting this spruced up and rambunctious city
requires your own retreat where tranquility and beauty describe the place where
you hang your hat. That is another reason I love this hotel. I am greeted
with authentic hospitality and peace. The front desk reception is never too
busy to help you find what you are looking for. George Papadakis and Dorina
Stathopoulou - a fine yet humble photographer - run the place behind the scene.
Their quiet charm and patience is reflected throughout the hotel.

Acropolis View |
You
see, it’s not a big hotel, just 67 modern, really cool rooms. Personally, I
felt rather special with the high ceiling and cathedral windows that open to
offer sweet breezes, greenery and best of all - a sterling view to the
Acropolis. Most rooms offer this. Indeed, as soon as I checked into my
own spacious gem of a room and looked out at Greece’s most famous landmark, I
felt I was neighboring with the gods.

Please,
forget about staying at those dowager impersonal hotels that dig deep into your
wallet. There is no need to search for forgettable glitz and phony glory in
some huge hotel that can’t even remember your name. At Plaka Hotel, there’s
Internet a bar, all necessary amenities and cozy comforts.
Breakfast Room |
Speaking of comfort, how about food?
The big buffet breakfast here is on the house. Along with an endless array
of North American breakfast fare, there is a Greek corner nook where among
tasty fruits and breads, you can enjoy the greatest yogurt ever made. Yes, the
Greek honey is mighty fine too.
It’s a feast here, but one without
all the clamour and stress that many Athenian accommodations can’t avoid. Kali
