I Love You Phillip Morris by / par Glenn Ficarra, John Requa

This directorial debut strengthens the concept “that the truth can often be stranger than fiction.”
The film is based on the extraordinary true story of Steven Jay Russell (born 1957). Steven is a conman and pathological liar, who escaped from the penitentiary many times. He succeeds, mainly, by convincing the authorities that he was someone else: doctor, lawyer, judge, among others.
As he lies on his deathbed, Steve Russell (played with Jim Carrey’s usual zaniness) reflects on the highlights of his life. When he was a child, Steve finds out that he has been adopted. This instilled in him a strong desire to be loved and he is willing to do anything to achieve this.
He becomes a police officer in West Virginia and seems happily married. To find his biological mother, he uses law enforcement services. She closes the door on him.
After a serious automobile accident, Steve realizes that he is gay. He abandons his family and his job to move to Miami. He finds a boyfriend and upon realizing that his current lifestyle is expensive, he resorts to scams.
He gets caught and sent to prison. While there, he meets and falls in love with gay inmate, Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). He gets Phillip released by posing as a lawyer. When Steve is released, he fraudulently attains the position of chief financial officer of a large company. Eventually he is caught and charged with fraud and is returned to prison.
Desperate to see Phillip once again, Steven concocts an elaborate plan to fake his own death.   He took laxatives to mimic the symptoms of AIDS. When Phillip means that Steven is "seriously ill" he desperately wants to see once more. When Phillip hears that Steven is ‘deathly ill’ he desperately wants to see him one more time.
How far one is willing to go for the love of another and how much deception will the other be willing to accept?
