Beautiful Darling by / par James Rasin

Director James Rasin gives us an intimate portrait of Candy Darling, who was Andy Warhol’s (1928-1987) superstar actress. Candy was born in a Long Island suburb on November 24th 1944 as James Slattery and died of lymphoma on March 21^st 1974. Though born a male, she felt strongly drawn to being feminine and was adamant that she be called ‘she.’
Film features Chloe Sevigny as ‘the voice of’ Candy reading from her private diaries and letters. Patton Oswalt provided the voices of Andy Warhol and Truman Capote. Archival footage and interviews with those closest to her give us an up close picture of this legendary individual.

All in all this is a powerful documentation of an iconic period in the world of pop-art the effects of which are still felt to this day. Candy’s memory lives on. Her character is featured in many other films and honoured with many musical tributes; the most notable being Lou Reed’s 1971 hit “Take a Walk on the Wild Side.”
