Deux Jours à New York / Two Days in New York par / by Julie Delpy

Sequel to 2007’s “Two Days in Paris.” Marion, (Julie Delpy), a French photographer, is still living in New York but has broken up with Jack (played by Adam Goldberg in ‘...Paris’) and is raising her son Lulu (Owen Shipman) with her new boyfriend Mingus (Chris Rock) who has a daughter, Willow (Talen Ruth Riley), from a previous marriage. He is a hip talk-show radio host and also works at The Voice, a New York City based journal. This is where he met Marion.
Their cozy existence is about to come crashing down  – Marion’s father Jeannot (real-life father Albert) and sister Rose (Alexia Landau) decide to come to New York for the weekend to see her  and Lulu. Rose’s boyfriend Manu (Alexandre Nahon) accompanies them to Marion’s chagrin as he was one of her former boyfriends.
Jeannot is stopped at customs for trying to smuggle in French cheese and sausages. Rose walks around the apartment nearly nude. Manu has an annoying stereotypical view of American blacks. Jeannot’s joie-de-vivre is over the top. Lastly Manu and Rose indiscreetly buy and smoke pot. To add to the maelstrom Marion needs to prepare herself to ‘sell her soul to the highest bidder’ at an upcoming show in an art gallery.
Chris Rock, who usually plays zany characters, is superb in straight man role trying to cope with Marion’s   family and her increasing neurosis. Julie Delpy is charming and comes across as Paris’ answer to Woody Allen. Albert, Alexia and Alexandre are well-cast in their roles, as they poke fun at certain Parisian stereotypes.
