Summersett: CD Launch of ACT ONE

Summersett equals Nick Carpenter (Piano) and Patricia Summersett (vocals) backed on stage with the following jazz and classical musicians from Montreal:    

Sheila Hannigan (cello)

Geneviève Liboiron (violin) *

Pierre Gaudreault (bass) 

Jean-Philippe Godbout (drums),

with special guest Eric Davis (backup vocals). This is a first for him, and hopefully, not the last. His voice blended well with that of Patricia’s especially in I’m Comin’ Over (both English and French versions)

*On the CD Ariane Gruet-Pelchat plays violin

avec comme invité spécial Eric Davis (chants de renfort). Ceci est une première pour lui, et nous espérons, pas le dernier. Sa voix mélangée bien avec celle de Patricia surtout dans Si Je Peux Arriver (les deux versions Anglaise et Française).

Though, ‘officially’, the Summersett story is said to have begun in 2012 when the piano-vocal duo started jamming with a band, it actually began nine years ago at a burlesque show at Mainline Theatre on Boulevard St Laurent in Montreal – Patricia was on stage and Nick was behind the music. The impact of this encounter was two-fold and instantaneous – an intense and prolific creativity (the two collaborated on an eclectic multitude of projects from theatre, cabaret and film) and a deep and unshakable romance. Act One tells the story of their relationship in song. As their story unfolds as a duality so do their songs. Some are lyrical ballads (Real Life, Amsterdam), others are playfully whimsical (I’m Comin’ Over, Bed Bug). Indie-folk tinged with elements of theatre, jazz and classical – mainly provided by Nick and the band. Patricia’s voice is reminiscent of Joni Mitchell in both style and phrasing.

Bien que, «officiellement», l'histoire Summersett est dit d’avoir commencé en 2012, lorsque le duo chant-piano a commencé a jammer avec un groupe, il a réellement débuté il ya neuf ans à un spectacle burlesque au Théâtre Mainline sur le boulevard St-Laurent à Montréal – Patricia était sur scène et Nick était derrière la musique. L'impact de cette rencontre comportait deux volets instantanés – une créativité intense et prolifique (les deux ont collaboré sur une multitude de projets éclectique de théâtre, cabaret et film) et une idylle profonde et inébranlable. Act One raconte l'histoire de leur relation en chanson. Comme leur histoire se déroule comme une dualité de sorte faire leurs chansons. Certains sont des ballades lyriques (Real Life, Amsterdam), d'autres sont joyeusement fantaisiste (Si Je Peux Arriver, Bed Bug). Indie-folk teintée d'éléments du théâtre, jazz et classique – essentiellement fournis par Nick et le groupe. La voix de Patricia évoque Joni Mitchell tant dans son style et son phrasé.
