SMCQ présente « Ô Bali »




 
Un concert envoûtant entre tradition et modernité.
Une rencontre entre la musique Balinaise et l’esprit créateur du grand compositeur José Evangelista (né en Valence, Espagne en 1943); série hommage no 6 2017-2018.
José Evangelista a commencé sa formation professionnelle en 1959 à l'âge de 16 ans. Il a étudié l'harmonie et l'orchestration au Conservatoire de Valence et l'informatique à l'Université de Valence. Il obtient des diplômes en composition, physique et informatique. En 1969, il a immigré au Canada d'abord à Ottawa, puis peu après à Montréal.
Dès le début, son approche de la composition a été de créée une musique basée exclusivement sur la mélodie. Fortement enraciné dans ses origines Espagnoles, Evangelista a greffé les influences du gamelan Indonésien, de l'avant-garde Occidentale et de la musique modale. Sa base de référence est devenue universelle. Il a remporté plusieurs prix et a reçu de nombreuses commandes.

A bewitching concert between tradition and modernity.
An encounter between Balinese music and the creative spirit of the great composer José Evangelista (né / b. Valence, Spain in 1943); tribute series no 6 2017-2018.
José Evangelista began his professional training in 1959 at the age of 16. He studied harmony and orchestration at the Valencia Conservatory and computer science at the University of Valencia. He obtains diplomas in composition, physics and computing. In 1969, he immigrates to Canada – at first to Ottawa, and shortly thereafter, to Montreal.
From the very beginning, his approach to composing has been to create music based exclusively on melody. Firmly rooted in his Spanish origins, Evangelista has grafted the influences of Indonesian gamelan, Western avant-garde and modal music. His reference base has become universal. He has won several prizes and has received many commissions.

Gamelan gong kebyar:

Kebyar signifie «le processus de floraison», et fait référence aux changements explosifs de tempo et de dynamique caractéristiques du style. C'est la forme la plus populaire de gamelan à Bali, et son exportation musicale la plus connue.

Ensemble de Musiques Balinaise en résidence à la faculté de musique de l'Université de Montréal. Ils sont actuellement le seul gamelan gong kebyar à 5 notes au Canada. L'ensemble est né de l'initiative d'Evangelista de créer l'atelier Balinese Gamelin à l'UdeM en 1987, après Expo 86 à Vancouver.
Balinese Music Ensemble in residence at the Faculty of Music of the Université de Montréal. They are currently the only 5-note gamelan gong kebyar in Canada. The ensemble sprung out of an initiative of Evangelista’s to create the Balinese Gamelin Workshop at UdeM in 1987 after Expo 86 in Vancouver.
