Don Alfonso is being threatened by a gang of thugs who want to set his marimba on fire. His marimba is of traditional Guatemalan design. Fearful for himself and his family he has sent his wife and child off to a safer place and brings his marimba everywhere he goes. Searching for a place to play his marimbas, he meets heavy metal drummer, Black. This he does with the aid of his godson, the glue-sniffing Chiquilin. Black was part of the underground heavy-metal group, The Warriors and now works as a doctor in a public hospital.
Don Alfonso proposes to Black that they meld heavy metal with the sound of the marimbas. Black agrees.
The film begins with an interview with Don Alfonso, giving the viewer the impression that this film is a documentary about the high regard that the marimba plays in Guatemalan society and helps one cope with its violent nature. The film then cuts to a scene where Don Alfonso is seeking gigs to perform on his marimba.
That message is parleyed to the audience in an amusingly original manner, blending the line between fiction and documentary. The use of non-professional actors adds to the film’s credibility. The three principle actors, Alfonso Tunche, Roberto González Arévalo, Víctor Hugo Monterroso, though coming from totally different backgrounds, possessed an on-screen chemistry. The overall result is a film that expresses the director’s concerns with issues affecting Guatemalan society.
Don Alfonso est menacée par une bande de voyous qui veulent mettre le feu à son marimba. Son marimba est de conception Guatémaltèque traditionnelle. Craignant pour lui-même et sa famille, il a envoyé sa femme et son enfant à un endroit sécuritaire et apporte son marimba partout où qu'il va. En recherche d'un endroit pour jouer ses marimbas, il rencontre le batteur heavy metal, Black. C'est ce qu'il fait à l'aide de son filleul, la Chiquilin, qui renifle de la colle. Black faisait partie du groupe clandestin heavy metal, The Warriors et travaille maintenant comme un médecin dans un hôpital public.

Les acteurs principaux, Alfonso Tunche, Roberto González Arévalo, Victor Hugo Monterroso, bien que venant issus de milieux totalement différents, ils possédaient une chimie sur l’écran. Le résultat est un film qui exprime les préoccupations du directeur avec les questions qui touchent la société Guatémaltèque.
