Do you hunger for knowledge and have a passion for the Arts? Then ‘The
International Festival of Films on Art (le FiFA)’ is for you. The 38th edition (from March 17 to 29) offers nearly 200 films from more
than 40 countries. Screenings
and special events will be presented online
Film buffs who also love the arts are invited to undertake a veritable
global journey that explores all aspects of art, all styles and all eras,
ranging from music to cinema, literature, painting, architecture, design etc.
This exquisite 12-day banquet is a feast for all. Artists, both known and
obscure, receive an in-depth treatment that not only entertains us, it also
educates us. You'll be taken behind the scenes to witness the act of creation
of classic or contemporary operas, theatre pieces and films. History, both
present and past, will be given its interpretative due.

A poetic and playful look at the beauty of ordinary
movement and the great human choreography; a
gentle foray into time, space and the body. Filmmaker follows renowned French choreographer Thierry Thieû Niang as he goes on tour in
2017 to offer intergenerational workshops for non-dancers. This film, in the form of ten chapters, draws us into the rich,
artistic and intimate worlds of dance and movement. In a way, through his
choreographies, it is also a portrait of Thierry Thieû Niang.
Un regard poétique et ludique sur la beauté du mouvement ordinaire et la
grande chorégraphie humaine; une douce incursion dans le temps, l'espace et le
corps. Le cinéaste suit le chorégraphe Français de renom Thierry Thieû Niang
alors qu'il part en tournée en 2017 pour proposer des ateliers
intergénérationnels pour les non-danseurs. Ce film, en dix chapitres, nous entraîne
dans les univers riches, artistiques et intimistes de la danse et du mouvement.
D'une certaine manière, à travers ses chorégraphies, c'est aussi un portrait de
Thierry Thieû Niang.

coming back and being able to sing. A comedic film inspired by the music of The

Ramzi Ben Sliman highlights the surprising marriage between the
classical world and the urban choreographic arts. Paris, the Goutte-d’Or
neighborhood. Spring 2018. Ulysses, an impoverished and listless 20-year-old
runs into Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on the corner of a street. The Austrian
composer could help him out of a tight spot... in exchange for a dance.

the "mocap" (motion capture) aesthetic, Clinamen praises dance in its
purest form thanks to computer-generated images that reveal the quintessential
movement of three dancers in futuristic Palais Garnier and Paris.

danse dans sa forme la plus pure grâce à des images générées par ordinateur qui
révèlent le mouvement par excellence de trois danseurs dans le futur Palais

magnificent portrait of French actress Simone Signoret (1925-1985), that spans
her whole career and her quest to be a liberated woman, well ahead of her times. Her motto was: “I want to do what I like! I especially don’t want to do what I don’t
like! Of course, that’s how you should live, not how you should work.” "One
day, between cute and interesting, I chose to be interesting." Throughout her entire life, she
rejected any limitations that anyone would try to impose upon her.
Film includes much archrival footage.

Tintoretto - The Man who Killed Painting,

(born Jacopo Robusti
Tintoretto 1518-1594),
one of the great artists of
the Italian Renaissance, profoundly changed the artistic landscape of his era.
He began painting at a time when radical social change marked the beginning of
the European Reformation. As an artist, he was unique, eccentric and indomitable, and he left
behind a massive body of work. His life is interwoven
with the history of Venice, Europe’s gateway. Featuring interviews
with experts, this film looks at Tintoretto’s work from a whole new perspective
and takes the audience on a wonderful journey into the world of this unique
artist.

1518-1594), l'un des grands artistes de la Renaissance Italienne, a profondément
changé le paysage artistique de son époque. Il a commencé à peindre à une

The Walking Man, Italy / Italie 2019, 61m05s, Giulio

A
man walks for six hours throughout Rome. This creates a single thread of
continuity as we, the viewers, walk with the man. And along the way, both the man
and ourselves observe the city’s many faces. The camera, which
follows him from a distance, was completely synchronized to his every movement. The result’s a journey that shines a
light on Rome’s starkest contrasts: city center and outskirts, concrete and
nature, ancient history and globalization. A widely
concept known as ‘the experience,’ often used in theatre, is brought into the
cinema through the use of a rich audiovisual backdrop.
Un homme marche pendant six heures partout dans

Hannigan, recently began conducting. This documentary follows Hannigan – from auditions to opening night – as she is preparing to
conduct her first opera (Stravinsky’s
masterpiece The Rake’s Progress). The
filmmaker follows Hannigan throughout the whole creative process from auditions to opening
night. The audience is taken on a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process
and given privileged access to special moments filled with excitement and
magic.

récemment commencé à diriger. Ce documentaire suit Hannigan – des auditions à

Auguste Escoffier (1846-1935) was a French
chef, restaurateur and culinary writer who popularized and updated traditional
French cooking methods. He raised its status to the level of fine art. Reconstructions, archival images and interviews
with several key names in contemporary cuisine, has produced a film that is a
rich portrait of French cooking, then and now.

Walls
of Limerick, Ireland / Irlande 2018, 7m31s, Arturo Bandinelli
A
dance metaphor of the conflict between Northern Ireland and the South. The dancers provide an open window into their inner
world through the use of movement. It also allows them to escape their bleak
and oppressive reality as Irish citizens caught between the two sides of the
conflict.

métaphore de la danse du conflit entre l'Irlande du Nord et le Sud. Les
danseurs offrent une fenêtre ouverte sur leur monde intérieur grâce à
l'utilisation du mouvement. Cela leur permet également d'échapper à leur

Mingus

The album Mingus Erectus was released June
30th, 2016, with a collection written by Noël Balen, of
poetry
along with texts set to music composed by Etienne Gauthier. The music of double
bassist Charles Mingus has influenced the lives of many, including poet and
bassist Noël Balen. This inspired him to write the collection of poems as a tribute to his
legendary idol. A dazzling, bold and inventive musical voyage, this film
documents the creation of this tribute to a jazz giant. Giving voice to Balen’s poems are the artists and
singers, accompanied by the immortal music of Mingus.
L'album Mingus Erectus est sorti le 30 Juin 2016, avec un recueil écrit
par Noël Balen, de poésie et de textes mis en musique par Etienne Gauthier. La
musique du contrebassiste Charles Mingus a influencé la vie de nombreuses
personnes, dont le poète et bassiste Noël Balen. Cela l'a inspiré à écrire le
recueil de poèmes en hommage à son idole légendaire. Voyage musical
éblouissant, audacieux et inventif, ce film documente la création de cet
hommage à une géant du jazz. Les artistes et les chanteurs donnent la parole

Divinations,

Children
from Brussels, Athens and Sarajevo predict the future by looking at abstract
patterns randomly found by laying down adhesive tape on various surfaces in
their respective cities. They would then project the collected dust, sand, insects,
and glass, and from these images they decipher an imprint of the city and its
future. This would be based on their own impressions, dreams and fears. Definitely
shows that we adults should stop what we are doing and listen to what they are
saying.
Des
enfants de Bruxelles, d’Athènes et de Sarajevo
prédisent l'avenir en regardant des motifs abstraits découverts au hasard en posant
du ruban adhésif sur diverses surfaces dans leurs villes respectives. Ils
projetteraient ensuite la poussière, le sable, les insectes et le verre
collectés, et à partir de ces images, ils déchiffreraient une empreinte de la
ville et de son avenir. Cela serait basé sur leurs propres impressions, rêves

Le Procès de Lady Chatterley - Orgasme et Lutte des Classes dans un

In
1960, Penguin Books wanted to publish Lady
Chatterley’s Lover by D.H. Lawrence, which had been banned in Britain. The publisher took
advantage of a law passed in 1959 ("Obscene
Publications Act") which allows pornographic
writings to be published if they contain an artistic value. The public prosecutor for the British
Crown
lodged the complaint. This remarkably researched and
scholarly film allows us to get a glimpse of key moments of a historic, game
changing trial that allowed the general population to benefit from D.H.
Lawrence’s masterpiece, one that was unjustly judged by its content instead of
its message.
The novel recounts with graphic detail the unadulterated story of an aristocrat’s passionate affair with her
gamekeeper.

The Berlin-based clarinet duo, The International Nothing,
consists of Kai Fagaschinski and Michael Thieke. This documentary follows the
duo from the conception of their album In Doubt We Trust to its release February 18, 2018.

The

The
most breathtaking scenes in nature are often those involving mountains. Not
only in the background but also their peaks and inside them – tunnels, quarries and caves which
allows access into the subterranean layer of the mountain. Film focuses on
three European locations. This access brings to light sites of speculative knowledge from which
beliefs, imaginations and unofficial historical anecdotes are derived and
circulated. The film unfolds in three chapters:
Exploring the healing powers of radon
gas found in Austria.
The powerful energy felt in stones in
Switzerland.
The pearls created by sweat and blood
found in Polish caves.
Les scènes les plus époustouflantes de la nature sont souvent celles
impliquant des montagnes. Non seulement en arrière-plan, mais aussi leurs
sommets et à l'intérieur d'eux – tunnels, carrières et grottes qui permettent
d'accéder à la couche souterraine de la montagne. Ce film se concentre sur
trois lieux Européens. Cet accès met en lumière des sites de connaissances
spéculatives à partir desquels des croyances, des imaginations et des anecdotes

Tabaski, Senegal / Sénégal / France 2019,26m,

The Feast of Tabaski in Senegal is an annual
festival based on the ancient tale of Abraham (Ibrahim) when commanded by God
to sacrifice his son (Isaac according to the Hebrew texts, Ishmael as per Quran).
Filmmaker follows various characters as they prepare for the festival. A
painter works in his studio creating paintings based on the festival’s themes
(freely inspired by Iba Ndiaye’s painting The Tabaski round, who’s
next? (circa 1960s-70s – a sort of allegory in which the sheep is presented
as a symbol for all victims). The
other characters are a shepherd, a singer and a saxophonist.
La
fête de Tabaski au Sénégal est un festival annuel basé sur l'histoire ancienne
d'Abraham (Ibrahim) lorsque Dieu lui a ordonné de sacrifier son fils (Isaac
selon les textes Hébraïques, Ismaël selon le Coran). Le cinéaste suit divers
personnages alors qu'ils se préparent pour le festival. Un peintre œuvre dans
son atelier en créant des tableaux sur les thèmes du festival (librement

Guandong works as a guard at the Central
Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
His 14-year-old son has just passed the entrance exam to study the French horn.
Both dream of the son traveling abroad to further his studies. Because their
family home in Jinan has been demolished, they both take shelter at the
Conservatory. From the vantage point of his post as a guard, Guandong watches
over his son and is able to keep track of his education.
Guandong travaille comme gardien au Conservatoire
Central de Musique de Pékin. Son fils de 14 ans vient de passer l'examen
d'entrée pour étudier le cor d'harmonie. Tous deux rêvent que le fils voyage à
l'étranger pour poursuivre ses études. Parce que leur maison familiale à Jinan
a été démolie, ils se réfugient tous les deux au Conservatoire. Du point de vue
de son poste de gardien, Guandong veille sur son fils et peut suivre son
éducation.

An audiovisual poem floating through an apocalyptic landscape devoured
by boreal wildfires and the ruthless exploitation of fossil fuels. Recorded at
the Athabasca oil sands in Alberta, Canada during the wildfires in 2016.Un poème audiovisuel
flottant dans un paysage apocalyptique, dévoré par les feux incontrôlés de la
forêt boréale et l’exploitation excessive des combustibles fossiles. Tourné
dans la région des sables bitumineux de l’Athabasca en Alberta, au Canada, lors
des incendies de forêt, en 2016.
