7th edition Israel Film Festival 2011 (May 14th – 23rd)

An eclectic mix of 18 films (fiction and documentaries) that offer a glimpse into an Israel that is quite different from what we see in the media. Many films adding a human face to the harsh realities that many Israelis and Palestinians face in the region.

The venues for this year’s festival are Corona Theatre (2490 Notre Dame West, May 14th and 19^th), Concordia University (1455 de Maisonneuve West room H-110, May 15^th -18^th) and Guzzo Megaplex Speretech (3500 Cote Vertu, Ville St Laurent, May 22^nd and 23rd).

The opening film “Precious Life” by Shlomi Eidar (May 14^th) is an emotionally stirring film about a Palestinian family from the Gaza Strip fighting to save the life of their infant son who is dying from a hereditary disease. Dr Raz Somech, the respected Israeli physician who handled the case will be present. A second screening is scheduled for Monday May 16^th at 6:30pm.

Also of note, Tomar Heyman, acclaimed documentarian, will be present for his 2006 film “Bridge over the Wadi” (May 16^th at 9pm) and his latest “I Shot My Love” (tonight at 8:30pm). Finally the acclaimed director of “Lemon Tree” and “The Syrian Bride”, Eran Riklis will present his wife’s, Dina, 2006 film “Three Mothers” (May 19^th at 6:30pm) and his latest “The Human Resources Manager” (May 19^th at 8:30pm and 22^nd at 6:30pm).

 Un mélange éclectique de 18 films (fiction et documentaires) qui offrent un aperçu dans un État d'Israël qui est très différent de ce que nous voyons dans les médias. De nombreux films, ajoutant un face humaine à la dure réalité que beaucoup d'Israéliens et de Palestiniens dans la région vie de jour en jour.

  Les salles pour le festival de cette année sont le Théâtre Corona (2490 Notre-Dame Dame Ouest, 14 et 19 Mai), Université Concordia (1455 de Maisonneuve  Ouest salle H-110, 15 au 18 Mai) et Guzzo Mégaplex Speretech (3500 Côte Vertu, Ville St Laurent).

Le film d'ouverture « Vie Précieuse » par Shlomi Eidar (14 mai) est un film émotionnellement émouvant sur une famille Palestinienne  de Gaza, qui combat pour sauver la vie de leur fils qui est en train de mourir d'une maladie héréditaire. Dr Raz Somech, le médecin Israélien respecté qui a traité l'affaire sera présent. Une seconde projection est prévue pour le lundi 16 mai à 18:30.

Également de noter que Tomar Heyman, acclamé documentariste, seront présent pour son film 2006 "Pont sur le Wadi" (16 mai à 21 :00) et son dernier « J'ai Tiré Mon Amour"(ce soir à 20:30). Enfin le célèbre réalisateur de « Lemon Tree » et « La Fiancée Syrienne », Eran Riklis présentera, 2006 film "Trois Mères" (le 19 mai à 18:30) de sa femme, Dina et son dernier « The Human Resources Manager » (le 19 mai à 20 :30 et le 22 à 18:30).
